The summer garden takes a whole lot of maintainence. On top of all that I have been dealing with my tomatoes, just last night I sighted a hornworm moth attempting to lay eggs on my remaining tomato plants!Jayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12461600014446853297noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1414505450356893387.post-279244685054903192012-04-23T16:27:53.268-07:002012-04-23T16:27:53.268-07:00Great advise! This year I am only planting tomatoes and peppers in the summer garden. In fall and winter I don't have to deal with scorching temps, bugs, and disease, so those veggies like collards, chard, broccoli, and others that can take cooler temps really do well.debsgardenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15656883577922890561noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1414505450356893387.post-56302223564560943552012-04-23T07:59:23.124-07:002012-04-23T07:59:23.124-07:00Dear Malay-Kadazan girl,

It is a little difficult here to determine exactly how to plant for the early cold, the dry hot early summer and the humid later summer. The fall (second dry summer) seems to be the best time to grow tomatoes as long as it doesn't freeze in early November as it did this year.

Many people here do grow tomatoes near shade trees, Jayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12461600014446853297noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1414505450356893387.post-54562753777003785202012-04-21T17:54:52.502-07:002012-04-21T17:54:52.502-07:00I always found that location of growing is importa...I always found that location of growing is important and each season changes. Our summer is really hot so I grow them in partial shade but tomatoes really need good spacing and airy condition if humidity is high.Malay-Kadazan girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09692400837667241873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1414505450356893387.post-78894558484719614662012-04-18T12:36:11.517-07:002012-04-18T12:36:11.517-07:00Thank you for sharing your experience, Donna. It is a wonder that short season farmers were able to manage in the northern climates with the long winters and having an occasional year of little-to-no harvest.Jayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12461600014446853297noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1414505450356893387.post-62948503861756933782012-04-18T11:57:10.095-07:002012-04-18T11:57:10.095-07:00So true.
